Times are changing

Times are changing here in the land of smiles, with this recent development on the front page of Bloomberg this morning that a group wants to alter the lese majeste laws here in Thailand. Over the past few years too many different groups have used the lese-majeste law as a political tool against their enemies to the point where it became absolutely absurd.

It’ll be interesting to see whether or not this group can push for the adjustments it seeks, if it does, then its remarkably positive for Thailand over the long run.

See excerpt and link below:

Hundreds of people in a standing-room only crowd at Bangkok’s Thammasat University cheered yesterday as the Campaign Committee for the Amendment of Article 112 listed proposed changes to the law, including reducing the maximum jail sentence to 3 years from 15 years. It aims to gather 10,000 signatures over the next 112 days, a move that would allow lawmakers to consider the bill under Thailand’s constitution.
