AAV

TAA trims growth targets — Thai AirAsia (TAA) has scaled down its expansion this year, cutting targets for fleet growth and passenger volume to reflect sluggish demand triggered by the political unrest in much of the first half. The country’s largest low-cost carrier will take delivery of five Airbus 320 jets instead of eight planned earlier and trim its passenger target to 12.6 million from 13.3 million. The airline has continued to expand its network with yesterday’s announcement of its latest route — Bangkok-Sakon Nakhon. It will launch a service to its fifth northeastern destination on Oct 1 with two flights a day. Two other northeastern destinations, Roi Et and Buri Ram, are also on TAA’s radar screen, while it intends to add a fourth daily flight to Khon Kaen next month. Mr Santisuk said TAA still has two routes — one to a domestic city and the other bound for China — waiting to be opened by year-end. (Bangkok Post,, 29/07/14)

Comment: This isn’t a surprise as its FY targets haven’t been adjusted from the end of last year, now the question is will the goodwill for the market taper off as well?

Management said they will expand more into China in hopes of expanding customer base with major clients. 2H14 is expected to be strong on seasonality driven by more orders from abroad. It is confident that it will win the bid for the Blue Line extension which should help increase the number of passengers by 150,000 per day and help push revenue growth to more than 10%. (Tun Hoon, 15/07/14)

Comment: BMCL should finally be profitable in a couple of years post the expansion of new lines, the last infrastructure play left in Thailand today?

Comment: Yes, IF the coupon deal materialises, its still a big IF at the moment

AOT

No fall-off in profit – Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) is maintaining a stable outlook for 2014 despite adverse effects from the political turmoil, with earnings unlikely to tumble below last year’s level. The projected earnings, given that passenger traffic through the six AoT-run airports is seen rising just 2-3% for the full fiscal year, depressed by civil unrest in much of the first half. Thailand’s 2014 passenger traffic is expected to lag behind global growth of 4.5% to 5% and Asia-Pacific’s 6.5% forecast. (Bangkok Post, 24/06/14)

Comment: The strength in AOT isn’t from the Bangkok airports alone, their airports around the country are still doing magnificently well.

BLAND

Impact REIT to net BLAND Bt2bn – Thailand’s first REIT, the Impact Growth Real Estate Investment Trust, is expected to mobilise net cash of Bt2bn for its parent company, SET-listed Bangkok Land (BLAND), once it is introduced. The Impact Growth REIT, set up by Impact Exhibition Management, is scheduled for a third-quarter launch. (Bangkok Post, 24/06/14)

Comment: We’ve been hearing about a REIT for BLAND since…10-12 years ago, its nothing new, and now they expect a 3Q14 launch even though the legal framework isn’t completed yet. And there isn’t a government in place to approve this new framework, so no, no REIT within 3Q14, maybe 4Q14, but most likely next year.
