ADVANC ‘Respite’ for AIS’s 400,000 2G users facing cut-off – The Central Administrative Court decided to allow AIS extend the signals for 2G SIM cards on the 900 MHz network until March 21. The signals were due to be switched off at midnight yesterday The court’s decision follows a request by ADVANC for an order to force the NBTC to extend the period for 2G customer retention and ensure service continuity as stipulated in rules set out by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). Comment: People slightly misunderstand what is happening with BEC, everyone says that they are losing a fortune but in reality they are still the leading player in the media business, but because of increased supply in the industry their ASP’s have dropped.

CI plans to take over hotels at home and overseas; it expects this to be finalized next year. It plans to launch three new projects, valued at Bt5bn, which will raise its backlog to Bt3bn. 4Q15 net profit is expected to be a record high from seasonality and transfers that were spurred by property incentives. Comment: First they cleaned their balance sheet, then a share buyback and now M&A deals, not a bad move by this family.

CSL
CSL expects to show a net profit this year after achieving Bt248mn in net profit for first nine months. It expects 2015 revenue to grow 1-3%, close to last year’s, affected by a poor performance by its yellow pages and mobile contents businesses. ECL plans to do a M&A. It plans to expand its logistics business, as well as car and truck rentals. It expects to do a JV with PFS (stake not less than 25%), hoping this will make it a leader in the leasing business. Bangkok Air IPO ready to leave ground — Bangkok Airways’ initial public offering, first mooted some five years ago but delayed several times, is now firmly set for a mid-October take-off and poised to be one of Thailand’s largest listings ever. The 46-year-old privately owned carrier yesterday confirmed the plan to offer a maximum of 520mn newly issued ordinary shares or 24.8% of total issued and paid-up shares. (Bangkok Post, 23/09/14)
Comment: I haven’t read through the filing yet but it if they still hold shares in BGH then you may essentially get the airline for free.

Thailand’s IPO Frenzy

Want to feel like a rock star investor? Get into the small IPO’s. Anyone who was able to get IPO’s this year has been feeling that way, excluding IPO’s where commercial bank’s were the underwriters (here’s looking at you KBANK and SCB). The basic framework for IPO’s performing well on their first day hasn’t changed, if the market cap, free float are small enough, first day returns were and are likely to continue to be amazing given the market environment.

On the flip side, is this really a good thing? Shouldn’t IPO prices remain somewhat constant on their first day? If we’re seeing such high positive first day movements then the investment bankers aren’t doing their jobs properly on behalf of their clients (the listing companies) and are mispricing everything thereby missing a lot of potential capital..meh as if people care…

GUNKUL expects revenue to grow by 50% YoY and net profit growth of 10% YoY. It has backlog of Bt2bn. Four solar rooftop projects have generated revenue since May. (Khao Hoon, 09/05/14)

Comment: GUNKUL has become a one stop shop for the renewable energy sector with its ability to trade and manufacture electricial systems + the company itself has stakes in both wind and solar plants, steadier earnings ahead for them.

MCOT
