Comment: Perhaps with the investments into solar power plants will AKR finally have some real value within the company

AMATA
2015 net profit will be better than 2014’s Bt2.224bn, supported by two factors: booking extra gain from selling assets to AMATA Summit Growth REIT and booking profit from the IPO of its subsidiary Amata VN, scheduled to be listed in 4Q15. (Khao Hoon, 22/05/15)
Comment: As we’ve been writing the past 12 months, these are the only 2 reasons to be holding AMATA at the moment

Performance will turn around in 2016. It plans to set up a JV to invest in an 8MW solar power plant and expects the deal to be finalized in July. Comment: This is one turnaround story that I have my eye on, still a bit worried about the valuation at these levels though.

BANPU
The power business will become the new growth engine in 2015 for BANPU as it begins to book revenue from Hongsa, which has capacity of 1,200MW. The board also named Somradee Chaimongkul as the new CEO to replace Chanin Wongsakulkit. (Kao Hoon, 25/02/15)

Comment: Another company doing a stock dividend – reminds me of the beginning of 2013 when a lot of firms were issuing stock dividends, if even owners feel the market is a bit frothy shouldn’t we? I do like the owners of this business, its a nice little niche they’ve carved out for themselves.

Regional expansion on the menu for Sorkon

S. Khonkaen Food Plc (SORKON) is a major producer of Thai-style sausages and dried, shredded pork. In recent years the SET-listed company has branched out into food retailing and restaurants and is also pursuing other market opportunities. Chief executive Charoen Rujirasopon discusses the company’s strategy and outlook.

sorkon

Northeastern and Thai-Chinese dishes have broad appeal, says Mr Charoen.

What is Sorkon’s business model?

Sorkon brings food from the farm to the table. We currently produce traditional Thai foods and seafood products, and these we distribute both domestically and internationally. And we have taken our operations a step further in recent years by expanding into the quick-service restaurant (QSR) and snack business segments. Comment: I do wonder if this will be a future KAMART that also went through massive expansion only to suffer

GRAMMY

All capital increase shares taken — GRAMMY sold all of its 106.05mn new shares and pocketed Bt1.060bn. The proceeds will be used to invest in digital TV. Two of its subsidiaries purchased bidding envelopes for HD and SD channels. (Khao Hoon, 13/09/13)

Comment: Their earnings in the past 2 years were only decent because of share divestment, don’t just trade this based on P/E which brokers show.

Stocks in the news (amata, hmpro, ivl, ksl, seafco, sorkon, tmb) – 14.01.13

AMATA – New strategy will slow growth — AMATA said that revenues and profits this year are expected to slow due to a new business strategy, which focuses on long-term leases on land of up to 30 years instead of selling the land. The company hopes to hold on to its assets for the long term as expansion in the industry becomes more difficult. The company is still confident in its location and reveals that its land prices have already appreciated by 18% this year. (Krungthep Turakij, 14/01/13)

Comment: Amata to us is has always been a simple play in industrial estates that used to be attractive whenever the stock price was below THB 10 /share if there were political/global/local whatever crises and has always proven to be a fairly easy trade, now this does change the earnings dynamic going forward so one would have to adjust their thinking when it comes to investing/trading this co

HMPRO – Aiming at 15% revenue growth in 2013 — HMPRO said 2013 revenue will grow 15%YoY and plans to open eight new stores, starting in Chanthaburi on February 1. It launched a new campaign on Friday, which it expects to boost Friday sales by 15% (Khao Hoon, 14/01/13)

Comment: If you want to see where Thailand’s growth has come from in the past few years look at hmpro’s breakdown in revenue structure, upcountry sales now rep close to half of total revenues

IVL – Targets 15% revenue growth in 2013 — IVL targets 2013 revenue to grow 15%YoY off a rise in volume to 6mn tons from 5.3mn tons. It will also book US$40mn in insurance compensation from the flooded plant in Lopburi. (Tun Hoon, 14/01/13)

Comment: was a battered stock last year, its improvement recently isn’t a surprise and its one helluva well run company Continue reading Stocks in the news (amata, hmpro, ivl, ksl, seafco, sorkon, tmb) – 14.01.13
