Comment: Are the tourists coming back?
AOT released their latest passenger figures, go the link below, and every analyst today was going on about how travelers are back with numbers +11% for October 2014. Do take things with a grain of salt and realise that if you take the full year figures, passenger arrivals are up only +0.14%.
But what does this mean? Despite every crisis that Thailand has faced, it rebounds tourism wise, without a doubt, bird flu, pig flu, coups, airport shutdowns, red shirt parties, yellow shirt parties, bombs in the south and the list goes on, this country still is able to attract visitors.
The most interesting number here is how Don Muang has boomed = low cost airlines are doing well. Even more interesting is the if you break down the nationalities of tourist arrivals, China, is representing the largest % of all visitors, and if you ask me, I think its only going to keep growing.
Ok, some will ask if they should buy hotel stocks (i.e. CENTEL, ERW, MINT) now? Sure if you don’t mind waiting years to see a decent return, otherwise next time buy when there’s a crisis.

AOT seems pricey.

AOT is a perfect stock to invest in when things are a mess…thats unless you believe Thailand won’t be able to maintain its teflon tag.

It’s easy to get negative about tourism in Thailand, but it’s got a long way to go yet.
