In the past two years there’s been quite the flurry of activity in the software space.

I’m a computer nerd, I remember building a computer with a 486 dx2 66 Mhz processor with 4 mb of ram. And when I realised that I could overclock the CPU, I nerded out hard – (note it eventually led to the computer crashing, but until then it was a blast).

Since ChatGPT came out, I’ve been loving it, now why on earth am I sharing this here? If you’re not even using (at least the free versions of) ChatGPT, Perplexity, NotebookLM, Otter.ai then you’re missing out…granted it may depend upon the type of work you do, but in my world – these 3 tools have been absolutely fantastic at speeding up work…

I’ll share some examples and links below and if you have any thing pls do so.

ChatGPT….Process

Ex 1: I am one of those that walk around the streets and carry a conversation with chatgpt through a bluetooth headset about a thesis on my mind..it saves the conversation…there’s a transcript it up…having a back and forth and remembering where to check something is invaluable…

Ex 2: Note cleaning…This isn’t note taking but note cleaning. Nowadays whenever we’re on company visits, notes are taken on laptops, phones etc etc. Normally it could take 1-2 hours to properly read, clean-up, and organise the notes from a company visit. Now? Copy and paste the raw data into chatgpt add the prompt “organise the notes into xyz format” boom magic, 1-2 hours work is condensed into 5-20 mins. Note I’m not asking chatgpt for analysis – but just ot , this isn’t asking chatgpt to analys

Ex 3: Anything process driven. I treat chatgpt like m’soft excel…I have a process, I want it automated – use chatgpt.

Ex 4: I do like making images with it.

Ask it to come up with questions that one should ask an executive, industry insider etc..as there may be a question or 2 that is of interest.

Perplexity…Search

Just test out the pro version … you get 3-5 free searches a day. It is what google used to be, an absolutely fantastic search engine. It is incredibly what information it can source (and provide links to) that google simply doesn’t anymore.

Background searches on people – company owners – it is fantastic.

Ask it to come up with questions that one should ask an executive, industry insider etc.. (Same as above)

Otter.ai – Zoom Calls

When it’s earnings season…or when brokers decide to organise calls…one normally thinks that they should attend and there are always going to situations when there is a conflict in the calendar…otter.ai is a life-saver, it takes a transcript of the calls – links to the correct slides provided. It is fantastic, even in quarterly calls where I do attend I make sure otter.ai is there incase I missed a note…and then yes you guessed it. Copy & paste in chatgpt, add a prompt and boom, notes from the call are ready to go.

NotebookLM – Best compiler

Upload annual reports, research reports, and then create a q&a here…fantastic…just fantastic…this video it very well.

Bonus – Grok.

Finding information on twitter/x. Oh its fantastic as well….but I have only recently started using it in the past 2 months…I’ll need more time on it to see if there’s a genuine use case…but given how many clever people are willing to share amazing in depth insights on the platform I can’t imagine why this wouldn’t be useful.

And there you go.

Enjoy playing with these tools over your holidays and pls share anything new that you may find.
