Solar Boom Driving First Global Panel Shortage Since 2006
Because alternative energy will now play a larger role in Thailand’s energy plans and solar will be a large player in this, More solar power projects coming to Thailand. The issue is that Thailand is still a small player in the global solar industry, should there be a shortage of panels well that could hurt players like EA but not SPCG b/c of their relationship with Gulf Energy. Interesting times ahead for this industry.
The looming shortage shows the rapid expansion of solar energy. The industry may install as much as 52 gigawatts this year and 61 gigawatts in 2015. That’s up from 40 gigawatts in 2013, and more than seven times what developers demanded five years ago, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
